MCE RSL3 is a ferroptosis inducer that directly inhibits glutathione peroxidase 4. Inhibition of GPX4 reduces the cell’s ability to detoxify lipid hydroperoxides, resulting in lipid-peroxidation accumulation and ferroptotic cell death.
RSL3 is frequently used with ferroptosis rescue compounds such as Ferrostatin-1 or Liproxstatin-1 to confirm that observed cell death is ferroptosis dependent.
