A widely used ferroptosis inducer that disrupts cellular redox homeostasis.
Erastin is a small-molecule inducer of ferroptosis. It inhibits the cystine/glutamate antiporter system Xc− and affects voltage-dependent anion channels, resulting in glutathione depletion, oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. It is widely used in cancer biology and regulated cell-death studies.
