An N-linked glycosylation inhibitor commonly used to induce endoplasmic-reticulum stress.
Tunicamycin is an antibiotic and inhibitor of UDP-N-acetylglucosamine transfer during the initial stage of N-linked glycoprotein synthesis. The resulting accumulation of improperly processed proteins induces endoplasmic-reticulum stress and activates the unfolded protein response.
