D-Luciferin potassium salt is a substrate for firefly luciferase. In the presence of ATP, magnesium and oxygen, luciferase catalyzes luciferin oxidation and produces a measurable bioluminescent signal. The reagent is widely used for reporter-gene assays and in vivo imaging of luciferase-expressing cells.
